Belgian Independence Day

Belgian National Day is commemorated annually on July 21st and marks the inauguration of their first King, Leopold I in 1831. Prior to their independence people in the region fell under both Dutch and French control at various periods of time. This strife has left its mark on this small country as the southern region of Wallonia speaks French, while the northern region of Flanders speaks Dutch.

Belgian National Day pulls these two regions together and allows them to celebrate their mutual contribution to the world, Beer!  In 2016 UNESCO recognized Belgian Beer as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
During the German occupations of WWI and WWII July 21st was seen as a day of resistance by many Belgians and today it is kicked off with a televised address from the King. Peruse our world class selection of Belgian Beer and celebrate with the Belgians!
